about kari jo

i see the world through words and desire a connection to each reader by gently reminding them of our shared feelings, and the power we invoke during the act of sharing such intimacies with each other.

i began writing at a very tender age to release, retell, and recenter, but never believed I could share my poetry with others.  in 2017, i gathered up my courage, stepped onto a small stage, and spoke my poetry out loud for the first time.  i marveled at the diverse community of poets!  from every walk of life, every color, every gender, every soul connected in those moments - all holding space for each other.  it’s one of the greatest gifts i’ve received.

my hope now is to share this gift of connection with you through each original poem.  i self-published my first collection of selected poems in 2018 and was a featured artist at a small local event in 2019.  in the years since, two of my poems were selected for display and print through the Kellogg-Hubbard library in honor of National Poetry month.

i gather with other poets and writers as often as i can and stubbornly refuse to let go of hope.

I also make small batch, handcrafted candles made with natural soy wax, 100% essential oils, assorted crystals, one original tiny poem, and the hope of connection.
