silent sorrows

and there came a time
when the weight of its acceptance
was greater than the loss itself
and the tears we shed
washed away
the stains of our shortcomings
but not that of my hope

and we sat in the pain
of the silence, waiting for relief
of the burdens carried by
hearts intertwined
and of souls seemingly preordained
to connect over the course of many lifetimes

like rivers that meet and travel together
until they can no longer carry their ancient glacier lees
dropping their slag like baggage
forming bars and barriers
forcing the interlaced waters to divide
and go the distance alone
to meet the vast sea.

these waters, consumed by the whole
feed the mysteries of the deep
each tributary now distinct
never to forget how they arrived;
connected as one, fighting to survive
until gravity pulled them apart
